East Loop
Streetscape Project

Creating a safer, more vibrant, and connected Delmar Boulevard for everyone.

About the Project

The East Loop CID is embarking on an exciting streetscape improvement project along the 5800-5900 blocks of Delmar Blvd, stretching from Hodiamont Avenue to Laurel Street. This project aims to transform Delmar Blvd into a vibrant, welcoming, and accessible space for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers, enhancing the safety, aesthetics, and overall community experience.

What We're Doing

  • Evaluating current street conditions, traffic patterns, and pedestrian safety along Delmar Boulevard.

  • Improving walkability, accessibility, and safety for people of all ages and abilities.

  • Strengthening connections for cyclists, transit riders, and nearby destinations.

  • Enhancing the street experience with better lighting, greenery, intersections, and public amenities.

  • Developing and testing streetscape designs to inform future improvements and support funding and grant opportunities.

Project Timeline

  • Discovery & Analysis (Completed)
Evaluation of existing street conditions, traffic and safety data, and community input to identify needs and opportunities along the corridor.

  • Concept Design (Completed – 2025)
Development of a 30% conceptual streetscape design shaped by community feedback, traffic studies, and safety analysis.

  • Design Refinement & Testing (2026)
Further refinement of the concept design, including semi-permanent/tactical installations to test key elements and gather data.

  • Grant Preparation & Funding (2026)
Preparation and submission of federal and regional grant applications to advance the project toward final design, engineering, and construction

Project Site

The project focuses specifically on Delmar Boulevard, from Hodiamont Avenue to DeBaliviere Avenue. This area serves as a vital commercial and community corridor, connecting residents and visitors to local businesses, transit options, and cultural destinations. Improvements made here will significantly benefit both the neighborhood and its surrounding areas.
